Technology is not my friend
Technology is ever changing. The latest and greatest new thing to make our lives easier. I am not one of those people who love getting new tech. Seriously... I had an antenna until last year when my husband made me get rid of it on the upstairs t.v. (which had a VCR).
So, all the new technology stuff that is out there to make our jobs easier is not my thing. But Social Workers are agents of change and I am embracing technology.
My blog dabblings have been abysmal, once a year I post on this page.
However, I have been a bit more speedy with using my ipad, Google and other forms of tech in my practice.
I am going to share some of my favorite things techy!
It goes without saying that Pinterest and Teachers Pay Teachers are great resources.
I enjoy the One Stop Counseling Shop that is run by a School Social Worker. Go Social Workers!!!
One Stop Counseling Shop I use her Tab books often with my groups for coping and anger. This is also the site with the basic S.M.A.R.T. goal guide.
Did you know there is a website just for counselors like TPT? It's called Counselor's Cabinet. Counselor's Cabinet I have used a few materials from here.
My favorite place to look for pre-made worksheets is Therapist Aid. This website has worksheets, activity ideas and resources. Therapist's Aid
My i pad has become a friend at work when I need to collect data.. the dreaded word in my office.
I use Behavior Lens all the time when doing observations for time on task or for an ABC data sample. It is handy once you play with it and it can email you reports.
This year I am trying to use the Data Tracker from Super Duper to track my IEP goal progress. Trying is the key word..
I also am trying to use Google docs to collect data. It is not going well but I keep trying to tweak it. Paper and pen is still my go to for attendance, what topics I'm using in groups and who I have seen or talked to and why.
"Change is good" is my mantra when I am trying to set up a Google doc. I have found that my fellow Illinois School Social Workers use Google. Check out the IASSW blog or Facebook page for great ideas. IASSW
I use several apps in my groups, either as tools to reinforce a skill or to end a group. My favorite to end groups or individual session is 5 Minute Relaxation. You can choose to end waking or sleeping. It's a guided muscle relaxation. My older students request it often.
My younger students really like the Sesame Street app called Breathe, Think, Do. A fuzzy monster is frustrated or nervous or sad and you have to help the monster Breathe, Think of a plan and then Do the plan. This one is used often. Love Sesame Street!
Other apps that I enjoy are Smiling Mind, Zones of Regulation, Fluid Monkey.
I'd love to hear what apps other School Social Workers are using.
